The next screening by ACC will be the 2017 Academy nominated film I Tonya.
In 1991, talented figure skater Tonya Harding becomes the first American woman to complete a triple axel during a competition. In 1994, her world comes crashing down when her ex-husband conspires to injure Nancy Kerrigan, a fellow Olympic hopeful, in a poorly conceived attack that forces the young woman to withdraw from the national championships.
Harding’s life and legacy instantly become tarnished as she’s forever associated with one of the most infamous scandals in sports history. Amid the fallout of the incident that defined Harding’s villainous legacy (“It’s what you all came for, folks”) the screenplay ensures that we never lose sight of her status as a survivor – whatever your views on Harding, you’ll leave the film cheering for Margot Robbie.
Starring Margot Robbie (nominated for Best Actress in the 2018 Academy awards for her performance as Tonya Harding), who gives a perfect performance in this ferociously entertaining biopic. Robbie gives a tour de force performance in this satirical, post-modern tale that finely balances nuanced character development with impressively punchy physicality. Allison Janney won the Oscar at the 2018 Academy awards for Best Supporting Actress for her role as LaVona Golden in this film.
