2019 details will be posted as soon as available.
A circus festival experience unlike anything you have ever experienced before.
(Karridale, Margaret River, WA) Tickets are now on sale for the incredible 2018 Western Australian Circus Festival and The Lunar Circus Summer Training School. Set on a beautiful private property in Karridale in south-western WA, the purpose-built festival site will play host to more than 100 circus, cabaret, comedy and theatre stars, along with the liveliest gypsy funk and hillbilly bands.
Circus festivals are beautiful experiences. In a world where we are increasingly digitally connected, they offer the chance to disconnect from screens, and reconnect to the real world. Come in close to witness people who can move their bodies in awe-inspiring ways, pushing the very limits of human ability, drawing you in for a closer look.
The Circus Festival sees more than 3000 colourful festival-goers camping onsite, all the better to enjoy the early morning yoga sessions and late-night adults-only cabarets. With five big tops, two bespoke bars and numerous once-off artworks, lighting displays and intriguing wonders to be found down every garden path, this is a festival experience that emulates USA’s Burning Man, Germany’s Dockville, and UK’s Glastonbury Circus Quarter. Come and enjoy a day’s entertainment or step up and join in a workshop – you can even have a go on the flying trapeze!
The Summer School program encourages young circus, gymnastic and dance trainees to partake in a two-week program that caters from tiny toddlers all the way to teen and adult performers. Developing their skills in acrobatics, hand-balancing, aerial arts and object manipulations, this is an opportunity to connect and train with the best circus professionals from all over the world. The opportunity to discuss career paths and professional development with their peers is an invaluable resource, and one of the reasons that Western Australian circus festivals are so popular. Those with a serious ambition to run away with the circus can participate in a third week performance intensive and present their new works in the Big Top at the Festival itself.
In recent years, Australia has become renowned internationally for its high-quality productions, which are regularly taking home all the awards at all the major arts festivals across Europe, Asia and the Americas. Our first release line-up includes a number of premier Australian circus companies including the unique acrobatic troupe Casus, award-winning festival favourite and comedy duo, The Birdman and Egg, Melbourne’s post-apocalyptic party Retrofuturismus, the marvellous magic of Liam Power, multigenerational adagio A Good Catch with the indomitable Debra Batton, and local legends, The Pitts Family Circus.
From all over the planet, we welcome sketch comedy and circus catastrophe Laser Kiwi (New Zealand), German speed-juggler Marc Dorffner, the visceral cabaret of David Eriksson (Sweden), and Fabian Galouÿe, French master of diabolo. These are just the tip of the iceberg, with more than 100 artists and companies joining us for the festival, this will be an epic event that will keep you coming back for more.
